Discover the superior quality and traditional design of our carbon steel Sentei Secateurs. These expertly crafted secateurs feature a smooth spring action and a convenient lock catch. Maintain their sharpness and longevity by properly caring for the carbon steel material.
The Japanese steel used for these pruners is notably hard and sharp, but may be more susceptible to damage from misuse. Avoid cutting materials such as wire, metal, stone, and plastic, as well as particularly tough natural materials like bamboo fibers and knotted or burled wood, which can chip the steel blades. It is important to avoid twisting or applying uneven pressure while using the pruners, and to always cut diagonally along the fibers of branches rather than straight across. Be mindful of the maximum cut dimensions recommended for the pruners, and refrain from attempting overly strenuous cuts as these are not designed for heavy-duty use. When making cuts, use the base of the blades rather than the tips for optimal cutting power.
Proper maintenance is crucial to keeping your Sentei Secateurs in top condition. Use a Crean Mate and water to remove leaf resin, rust, and debris. Afterwards, dry and wipe the blades with Camellia oil before storing them in a dry place.
Maintaining Their Sharpness:
While freshly purchased Sentei Secateurs may not require sharpening initially, prolonged use may cause them to gradually lose their sharp edge. This is particularly noticeable when trimming Boxwood, as it requires precise and sharp blades for a clean finish. Achieve optimal results by using Niwaki Sharpening Stones, with a #1000 grit recommended for general sharpening. Remember to sharpen your Secateurs every couple of weeks and your Shears and Topiary Clippers every time you use them for incredible results.
